Monthly Newsletter - July

For those of you who were not at last month's meeting, there have been changes to the FBH membership structure. In future (from 1/7), there will be no single or corporate/trade memberships, only club/society memberships. In other words, if you want to belong to the FBH, then you will have to join an affiliated group such as ERAC, PRAS etc to do so. Hopefully this may encourage individuals to support their local group! Existing single or corporate/trade memberships will be honoured until their expiry. Such memberships should have received notification of the changes from the membership secretary. It is also hoped to have another FBH conference this year subject of course to finding a suitable centrally located venue, probably in the Midlands. It is also hoped that it will be possible for clubs/societies to be able to bring along a display of members animals for added interest.

I understand that bookings for the Breeders Meeting are going very well with over 50% of the tables taken in a very short period of time. It will be interesting to see how attendance holds up this year as a result of the ridiculous cost of fuel which may deter people travelling any great distance. Where our venue is situated is not great for access by public transport.

The events the Club has attended so far this year have been quite profitable, but we have struggled at times with numbers of members attending, and capacity of vehicles to take display cages etc to the event. The message is - we need more help particularly from those of you who have transport.

Monthly Newsletter - April

A question, where were you all in March? Now I know the AGM is probably not the most interesting event in the world, and is rarely well attended, but this year the numbers of members who made the effort was even smaller than usual. Clearly most of you couldn’t care less as to how your Club is run! A bit sad really. Thanks however, to those who did turn up.

Again all is very quiet in the reptile world. I understand that the Hamm (Germany) show a couple of weeks ago was not up to much, with prices badly affected by the very poor exchange rate between Sterling & the Euro. Unless this improves, awaydays to the European shows will probably not be worth the time & effort unless you are after something specific.

First event is the early May bank holiday in Southend (two days of it). If you can help, please contact Val.

That’s it for now.
